WHY ARE DENTAL CLEANINGS AND EXAMS IMPORTANT?
Professional dental cleanings are thorough, and they clean hard plaque and tartar from your smile. Bacteria in plaque and tartar can cause cavities and gum disease, so coming in for cleanings helps keep your smile and gums healthy. Oral exams help us catch early symptoms of dental problems, allowing us to prevent further damage to your smile.
WHAT IS PLAQUE AND TARTAR?
Plaque is a film consisting of bacteria that covers your teeth. Sugar can cause the bacteria to release acids that are damaging for your enamel. Plaque hardens into a substance called tartar or calculus, which requires a professional dental cleaning to completely remove. Plaque and tartar can lead to cavities and gum disease.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN ORAL EXAM?
During your oral exam, we will look for symptoms of tooth decay or gum disease. We will also check your bite and utilize digital X-rays to see if there are any developing dental issues, and we will polish your teeth. We also have fluoride treatments available.
