Dental crowns & bridges
Dental crowns and bridges restore your damaged and missing teeth.
THE AMERICAN DENTAL ASSOCIATION RECOMMENDS TWO CLEANINGS/EXAM A YEAR
Dental crowns are a type of restoration recommended when teeth are too badly damaged to be repaired by a filling. Crowns “cap” your teeth, covering the entire visible tooth to restore its original size and shape as well as its strength, appearance and function. Crowns are frequently made of porcelain to provide a natural-looking final result but may also be made of gold or another metal.
Dental bridges are replacements for missing teeth. They consist of one or more false teeth that are supported by two dental crowns on either side. The false tooth is known as a pontic, and the two adjacent teeth are called abutment teeth. This is a fixed, or nonremovable, restoration.
During your first appointment for a dental crown, we will prepare the tooth for your crown and take impressions of the tooth. Then we will send the impressions to a lab for them to create the crown. In the meantime, we will likely provide you with a temporary crown. When we receive your permanent crown, we will make sure it fits well before securing it.
Similarly, for a dental bridge, we will prepare the adjacent teeth to receive crowns and also create an impression. You will also receive a temporary bridge while we wait for your custom bridge. When your custom bridge arrives, we will fit it and secure it.
